about

As you can surely tell from our photos, we are not professional photographers.
We are shutterbugs at best. We began posting a daily photo on our family website
in April 2005 and then launched juxtapose seven months later.
All photographs on this site are licensed under the
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 License. Images should

All of the photos on this photoblog were taken with one of three digital cameras.
We started out with a
Sony Cybershot
in 2002, and then moved to a
Kodak DX7590
in spring 2005. Currently we're using a
Nikon D50,
purchased in December 2005, along with a handful of lenses.
We take an average of over 100 photos per week. We tend to do very little post-processing
on the photos we post; in fact, we don't even own Photoshop. Generally we shoot in Nikon RAW
and process using ufraw and
the GIMP. In many cases where a photo has had additional post-processing, it
is noted in its commentary (under "details").
This web site runs entirely on open source software. The site itself is
built using Ruby on Rails as the web application framework. We have adopted
Ruby on Rails at my workplace and this is my first personal project in Rails.
Other open source technologies used to power this photoblog include
Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.
